• Bookmarks: 1

The City’s Arts and Living Cultures Department is set to launch the eThekwini Jazz Sessions programme on Sunday, 2 March at the Bat Centre. EThekwini Jazz Sessions is a series of jazz concerts that will be held every month at the Bat Centre to develop and support jazz music in eThekwini.

Two weeks ago, the Municipality selected development jazz bands, through the process of auditions, to be featured in the Jazz Sessions. The adjudication process was led by internationally acclaimed jazz musician Dr Nduduzo Makhathini and renowned jazz lecturer Susan Barry.

Selected development jazz bands will have the opportunity to perform alongside eThekwini jazz legends.

The Jazz Concert will feature enthralling live performances by multi-award-winning jazz pianist and producer Themba Mkhize, the Durban High School Jazz Band, and Talent and The Talented Band.

On the day of the launch, there will be jazz development workshops for emerging jazz musicians which will be facilitated by Themba Mkhize, who is a celebrated jazz musician, music producer, director, and scholar.

The City invites jazz lovers to attend the first instalment of eThekwini Jazz Sessions. To reserve a seat, send a RSVP to Sipho Mtshali on Sipho.Mtshali@durban.gov.za or call 031 322 7790/1.
