12 Day Signiture Events


The Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture, in collaboration with Arts Centres and various cultural organizations, is proud to announce the Cultural and Creative Industries Experience, set to take place from the 12th to the 23rd of February 2025.

The 12-day celebration will highlight nine creative industry sectors with an aim of accelerating growth, amplify impact, and foster development in the arts and culture landscape of South Africa.

The event is also focused on advancing key priorities such as the promotion of cultural diversity, social cohesion, the prevention of social ills, and the support of emerging artists.

The 12-day feat has attracted a wide range of participants and collaborators whose passion is celebrating South Africa’s rich heritage.

The signature event will feature a diverse mix of participants, including:

  • Creative Sectors: Fashion, Craftwork, Fine Art, Cultural Heritage, Choirs, Theatre Practitioners, Filmmakers, Performing Arts, Language Services, and Artists in Schools.
  • Collaborators: EDTEA, eThekwini Metro, CCIFSA, uKhozi FM, Film Commission, K-CAP, Wushwini Arts Centre, The Playhouse Company, BAT Centre, Durban Music School, Durban Museum and the Arts Gallery, Mangosuthu University of Technology, Durban University of Technology, Amafa, and Wentworth Arts Centre.

  • 12 February: Launch at King Shaka Airport (Media Briefing, Curators’ Presentations, and Gig Guide Reveal)
  • 13 February: World Radio Day including artist recording SICA’s Guest House
  • 14 February: “Sunday Lovers Program” presented by KCAP.
  • 15 February: “Lovers and Friends” showcase @ Wushwini Arts Centre
  • 16 February: Theatre play Cry, the Beloved Country at The Playhouse
  • 17 February: Visual Arts Festival with live performances.
  • 18 February: Theatre Festival competition (winner to perform at Grahamstown Arts Festival) and Dance Congress at Wentworth Arts Centre at The Playhouse
  • 19 February: Indigenous Food Festival at Wushwini Arts Centre.
  • 20 February: Launch of Echoes of Justice, a locally produced film, and World Symphony supported by the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra.
  • 21 February: International Mother Language Day, empowering young voices in schools.
