Durban – As the Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies prepare for their last push in the Hollywoodbets Pro Series, opening batter Alexandra Candler hopes to continue her good
form which has been a staple in the team’s success so far.
Candler has led the way in terms of runs scored in the Hollywoodbets Pro50 and is also in the top three run scorers in the Hollywoodbets Pro20. She’s amassed 257 runs in the 50 over competition so far this season with a top score of 104, one of just two hundreds scored across the tournament this season.
She’s averaging just shy of 43 with the bat and has been a consistent for the Dolphins at the top of the order. In the 20 over competition, she is third on the run scorers’ charts with 158 runs from six matches with two scores of over 50.
Her Dolphins team-mate and opening partner Nicolede Klerk is second on the run scorers’ chart with 169 runs from five innings. Candler’s good form with the bat has been crucial to the Dolphins winning eleven of their 12 matches across both competitions and she hopes that she can replicate that when the two competitions resume in February.
“Personally, it’s always nice to be amongst the runs, but at the end of the day it’s all about contributing as much as I can and as consistently as I can towards the team’s success” Candler said. “I want to carry on contributing and hopefully we can bring both trophies back to Durban at the end of the season”.
The Dolphins have lost one match so far this season, that came when they lost to the DP World Lions in their final Pro20 match of 2024. Candler has enjoyed being a part of a side that has dominated so far. “It’s been a really exciting season so far and it’s been awesome being a part of this amazing Dolphins team”.
“We’re pretty much the same team that we had last season with the addition of a few players, but as a team we’ve worked extremely hard during our pre-season and have definitely reaped the rewards so far”, she added.
Heading into their final four rounds, the Dolphins are the team to beat and will be eager to defend their 50 over title they won last season. The team understands that they will be under pressure for the final part of the season. “We know the expectations are high on us as players and a team to win more trophies, but I think we have worked incredibly hard, taken it game by game and we’ll continue to do that in the final four rounds,” Candler commented.
The Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies take on the Free State Women in the next round of the Hollywoodbets Pro Series over the weekend of 22-23 February.
