Durban, 17 February – Despite Durban’s chilly weekend weather, volunteers from Shincheonji Church of Jesus (Shincheonji) displayed their love by participating in a blood donation drive. In collaboration with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), the church successfully gathered a total of 71 blood donations, which are anticipated to contribute to saving 213 lives. This initiative raises awareness to the critical importance of blood donation within the region.
This partnership between Shincheonji Church and the SANBS has continued for over two years, reflecting their commitment to the region’s welfare. While this marks the first blood drive of the year, the collaborative efforts between the two organisations led to four successful drives in 2023, with nearly two hundred members of Shincheonji Church participating in Durban alone. Overall, close to 380 Shincheonji volunteers have contributed to these lifesaving campaigns
The SANBS has reported persistent shortages in blood stocks, with levels remaining below the three-day threshold for an extended period. To address this ongoing challenge and avoid reaching critically low levels, the organisation stated that it needed every South African, including active donors, lapsed donors and potential donors, to boost the national blood stocks.
Shincheonji Church in Durban remains steadfast in its commitment to hosting blood donation events and has urged community members and other churches to join in supporting SANBS’s quest to save lives.
The path of love and saving lives begins with you.
