South Africa’s national women’s soccer team, Banyana Banyana, has made it to the final of the 14th edition of the 2022 African Women’s Cup of Nations tournament currently taking place in Morocco.
The tournament began on the 2nd of July with 12 teams, one from each confederation, and the final will take place at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat Morocco, where South Africa will face host nation Morocco.
South Africa is ranked top of their group, winning all their games, defeating African giants Nigeria, and winning 1-0 against both Tunisia in the quarter-finals and Zambia in the semi-finals.
South Africa will face host nation Morocco in the finals on the 23rd of July at 21:00pm in hopes of winning the title after finishing as runners-up back in 2018.
With the success that coach Desiree Ellis’s players have had in the tournament, they have consequently been able to secure a seat in the 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup that will take place in Australia and New Zealand. They are joined by Nigeria, Zambia, and host nation Morocco from Africa.
During such uncertain times that South Africans are facing, watching Banyana Banyana win all their games has brought joy to the people of South Africa who will all tune in on the 23rd of July at 21:00pm to see the women showcase their skills and hopefully bring the trophy home.
