#MoveOneMillion: Move One Million Movement Protests Gain Momentum in South Africa

• Bookmarks: 18

Thousands of South Africans took to the streets, yesterday, 5th September, to speak out against social injustice and consequently became catalysts for status quo transformation. The agenda was mainly to raise awareness about fraud, corruption, gender-based violence and racism.

Participants and patrons of the movements believe that the current state of the country escalates to the worst every breath we take at every turn, and that now is the time for citizens to speak out against injustice and stand up for what is right.

The movement has attained reasonably massive Facebook support through its groups in numerous countries such as the United Kingdom, Netherlands, New Zealand, Australia, Madagascar, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Portugal, Norway, Switzerland and Greece.

While there were arranged schedules for protests, essentially in all nine provinces, the main rally, however, was held in Cape Town on Saturday morning.

The leaders and organisers of the movement pledged to take a peaceful stand against corruption and various forms of brutality across the country.

The Move One Million founder, Jarette Petzer stated in a statement that measures to put in place to protect South Africans during the lockdown turned into a money-making and looting strategy whereby billions of rands are unaccounted for. Thus the campaign aims to put an end to corruption and all forms of brutality in the country.

This Movement’s South African Facebook group had over 19 000 likes and over 20 000 followers on its mission to attain one million followers to take part in this peaceful protest across the country and abroad.
